Crafts are popular for a lot of
reasons
Most of us like the feeling of accompishment when
we make something with our own hands. We also like it when others
notice our work and comment on it.
And sometimes we enjoy doing something so much we
can actually make money doing it. Whether it's some part-time
pocket money or a full-time, full-blown business - crafting can be
profitable.
At this point we are NOT attempting to make any
money making and selling crafts. We have tried a few things with
some successes and some failures.
My own earliest experience was when I was about
12 give or take a coule of years. I found this project in some
magazine I think. I took a glass baby food jar and hot-glued some
fur, eyes, glasses and a hat to it and sold them for about
$5.00 each. They were fun to make and they did put some money in my
pocket. One thing is for sure...
I didn't "get rich" from it! As a matter of fact
after "investing" my profits in to some other projects, I probably
barely broke even. That said others can and do make good money from
projects.
My wife is very good with stuff like that. I get
into a project myself now and then. It can be relaxing to fashion
something from scratch. Since my work takes a lot of mental effort
- it's nice to be able to wind down and do something that takes
less thought and more dexterity.
Most kids love crafts. Making things empowers
them. They love the attention they get from showing off their
handywork. Gee, from the sounds of it - us grownups are just big
kids at heart.
Whatever your reasons you are sure to find craft
ideas and sources for all kinds of projects. You'll also find some
excellent books on the subject.
