Obama… Messiah?!

Once again I was fooled. I saw this and I thought “they have GOT to be kidding!”. Nope.
In the first place I had no idea folks were saying this about this guy. None. But yesterday I found out Obama was interviewed on The Today Show where he was asked how he would handle such “high expectations.
Don’t worry, that’s about as tough as the questions get. He’s not asked anything agonizing like what his wife will wear to his inaugural ball. (Or is that his Christening?)
I found yet another reference to the stuff folks are saying about him. It’s sickening… unless, of course, you ‘ve bought into the idea of this guy being, um, wothy of worship? I can’t bear to write the words but, in ancient times kings and emperors were considered “gods”.
I’m not trying to snow you here. In a moment I’ll supply a link to another blog with post after post regaling this person as someone who is somehow “more than human”. But this brings up a point I’ve only toyed with until now…
A friend of mine, someone whom, despite his apparent support for this candidate, recently spoke of the “end times” as if they are truly around the corner. I know his wife and just-short-of-voting-age daughter both support Obama. I thought he did also. In any case he referenced the end times recently in the context of the election. I found this interesting.
Then I saw the references to Obama as “Savior”. Is there a correlation? Are we truly on the verge of a “new age” and not the one the “New Agers” are hoping for?
One thing I’ve been saying is we need to trust that God is in control. He has a handle on this situation. I’ve always held several ideas about the end times. Some are rational and some are not. None of them are expert.
I’ve always felt I would live to see Christ return. Not rational but strongly felt.
I’ve always understood Christ would return before the end times came about. A rational and studied but not expert opinion..
I always thought the USA would NOT be a factor in end times events. Scripture never mentions this part of the world. It was essentially unknown to civilization when the Scriptures were completed. On the other hand, nothing specifically excludes us either. China and Russia are alluded to.
So what can be concluded from these facts? Well, it’s safe to say the USA either has a part in the end times or it doesn’t. Large or small or not at all.
If we do, then current events could easily play into an end times scenario.
If we don’t, then our significance must diminish before the periord of the end times. Again current events could bring this about.
A third scenario could be that I am blowing smoke here and no matter who is President, we will continue on as before… more or less.
